Job Title: Accounts Receivable / Collections Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a Temporary Accounts Receivable (AR) / Collections Specialist to support our finance team. This role will focus on day-to-day AR operations, including cash application, billing support, collections, and customer account reconciliation. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and able to manage a high-volume AR environment with minimal supervision. This is a temporary, individual-contributor role centered on execution and follow-through.

Responsibilities

Apply customer payments accurately and timely, including ACH, wire transfers, checks, and credit cards.

Research and resolve unapplied cash and payment discrepancies.

Maintain accurate customer account balances in the ERP system.

Generate and distribute customer invoices and statements.

Support invoice corrections, rebilling, and customer billing inquiries.

Ensure billing accuracy in accordance with customer terms and agreements.

Manage an assigned portfolio of customer accounts.

Perform proactive collections outreach via phone and email.

Follow up on past-due balances and document collection activity.

Maintain professional, customer-focused communication.

Research short pays, deductions, and chargebacks.

Partner with Sales, Customer Service, and Operations to resolve disputes.

Process credits, adjustments, and write-offs in accordance with company policies.

Manage customer portals for invoice submission, payment status, and dispute tracking.

Assist with AR aging reviews, ad hoc reporting, and month-end close activities.

Essential Skills

2+ years of experience in Accounts Receivable, Collections, or a related accounting role.

Strong hands-on experience with cash application and collections.

Experience researching and resolving deductions and discrepancies.

ERP system experience

Solid Excel skills; strong attention to detail; ability to work independently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in reconciliation

Customer service-oriented approach.

Experience with excel pivot tables.

Understanding of general accounting beyond just A/R.

Work Environment

This position requires onsite work every day in West Haven, CT. The work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, totaling 40 hours a week. The work environment is in a manufacturing building with an attached office. The team size is five, and the position reports to the CFO. The role is initially a two-month contract with the potential to become permanent. The company is a growing, family-owned business offering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere

This is a Contract position based out of New Haven, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $34.00/hr.
