This position serves our partners at the Department of Corrections (DOC). The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state.
As a the Data Analytics Engineer with Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) supporting the Department of Corrections (DOC), you will play a key role in shaping and advancing the strategic foundation for analytics and reporting to solve complex business challenges. You will apply advanced professional expertise in analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and supporting the administration, maintenance, and security of data within modern database platforms, helping the Minnesota Department of Corrections realize its vision of managing data as a strategic asset.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 1450 Energy Park Dr. St. Paul , Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in business intelligence or data analytics.
Experience must include:
Azure tech stack like Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, Power BI.
Strong knowledge of DAX and Power Query for data modeling and transformations.
Experience connecting Power BI to multiple data sources (SQL Server, Azure, APIs, Excel, SharePoint, etc.)
Strong SQL for analyzing the data and experience with data modeling and database design.
Knowledge of cloud platforms and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.
Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data visualization best practices.
Knowledge of Python/R for advanced analytics.
Effective communication, presentation, active listening and interpersonal skills to lead others in the establishment of business intelligence and analytics.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with data security concepts, including row-level security in Power BI.
Ability to design interactive dashboards that provide actionable insights for business users.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
