Job Description
The Lab of Dr. Romina Bevacqua in the Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism Institute (DOMI), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, NY, has an opening for a Research Associate position, with possibility to continue further academic studies.
The Bevacqua Lab is interested in understanding the mechanisms that regulate the function of pancreatic islets in adulthood, and their misregulation in disease. The main investigation areas include studies of:
1) Transcription Factors
2) Non-coding mechanisms, including diabetes genetic risk
3) external signals that mediated regulation of mature human islet function
In addition, the Bevacqua Lab is interested in developing and applying novel genetic approaches to study islet biology in primary human islets. The broader significance of the work in Bevacqua Lab is that diabetes affects over 400 million people worldwide and advancing our understanding of human islet maturation and functionality, will lead to development of novel approaches for the treatment of diabetic patients. To address these topics, the lab uses cellular and molecular biology, Next-gen sequencing (CUT&RUN, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, Mi-seq), islet transplantation approaches, and imaging. The applicant will work closely with the PI and post- doctoral fellows. We are a warm, friendly laboratory where the applicant will be able to develop professionally.
