Summary The incumbent in this position serves as the Executive Assistant to the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS), Deputy Chief Information Officers (DCIO) and Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) for Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). They assure that policies and programs are properly coordinated with other VA components and other government agencies and keeps the PDAS fully informed of program issues affecting VA. Major Duties: Plays an integral part in the decision-making process (how/what) involving a variety of aspects of the management of OIT programs. Intimately involved in determining and allocating resources; establishing goals, objectives, and priorities; developing procedures; facilitating new initiatives; coordinating program efforts with other activities and assessing the impact of organizational or functional changes on activities affecting Department- wide objectives. Keeps the PDAS/DCIO/DAS apprised of and identifies problems either actual or anticipated, communicates with senior executives involved, and provides other consultative assistance. Gathers all required information necessary to facilitate decision-making by the PDAS, DCIO, DAS or CIO, and acts as a "sounding board" in that process. Performs as a management consultant and represents the 2nd and 3rd level Executive Directors SES for OIT in interaction with offices of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Office of Personnel Management, Central Office, and field offices, GSA, National Capital Region, or other agencies concerning special projects and/or resolution of specific problems originally received by the PDAS, DCIO, DAS or CIO. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skllls, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience providing senior-level executive support to senior leadership, including planning and coordinating executive office operations. Responsibilities include managing enterprise-level calendars, high-level meetings and briefings, preparing executive correspondence, and serving as liaison with senior leaders and stakeholders. Ensured timely information flow for decision-making, managed sensitive matters, travel logistics, maintained official records, and resolved issues in a fast-paced environment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
