Job Title: Senior Mechanical EngineerJob Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer serves as a lead technical contributor responsible for mechanical and system-level design, integration, build, and test activities. This role applies advanced engineering principles to complex systems while supporting customer engagements, program milestones, and cross-functional collaboration. The position requires deep technical expertise, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to influence outcomes through collaboration and technical leadership. This is a 6-month contract role with the possibility of extension, with the intent to hire after a 12-month duration.

Responsibilities

Lead mechanical and system-level design, integration, build, and test activities.

Support customer engagements and program milestones.

Collaborate cross-functionally to achieve project objectives.

Provide programmatic oversight of engineers assigned to projects.

Serve as a technical lead and customer-facing engineering interface.

Essential Skills

10+ years of mechanical engineering experience with system-level or vehicle-level design.

Advanced mechanical design, integration, build, and test experience.

Ability to serve as a technical lead and customer-facing engineering interface.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and engineering judgment skills.

Proficiency with CAD platforms, PDM systems, and mechanical analysis tools.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical presentations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Master's degree (MS or MBA) is a plus.

Experience supporting DoD or defense-related engineering programs.

Program or project engineering experience on complex systems.

Familiarity with engineering simulations and system-level trade studies.

Proven ability to evaluate customer technical feedback and assess impacts to cost, schedule, performance, and design.

Experience coordinating design changes with program management.

Ability to identify and implement process improvements to reduce rework and increase efficiency.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Active Security Clearance (required).

Work Environment

The work environment is a professional engineering office setting. It is highly collaborative with engineering, manufacturing, program management, and customers. The role is primarily desk-based with extensive computer and documentation work, involving frequent interaction with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Sterling Heights, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr.
