Mechanical Engineer I - Ventilation R&D

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer I to join our Ventilation R&D team. In this role, you will support the design and development of parts, assemblies, and enclosures for both new and existing ventilator products and subsystems. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to meet product performance goals in areas such as thermal management, ingress protection, EMI isolation, and shock/vibration performance.

This position is primarily technical, offering hands-on design and analysis experience, with potential for limited project coordination responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in major development projects involving the documentation, design, development, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems used in next-generation and legacy life-support equipment.

Support layout and development of new product designs, including mechanical analysis, thermal/flow analysis, and tolerance analysis.

Refine designs to meet Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) objectives.

Produce detailed engineering documentation for new and updated products, including part drawings, assembly documentation, Bills of Materials, and purchasing specifications.

Generate and manage Engineering Change Orders to support design release and configuration control.

Assist with documentation for regulatory submissions and product testing.

Contribute to risk assessments and FMEA activities to support the design history file.

Participate in technical design reviews for new or revised products.

Interface with suppliers, present design concepts, and evaluate proto@types and samples.

Conduct verification and validation testing of parts, subsystems, and full systems, including preparation of supporting documentation.

Perform design of experiments (DOE) and laboratory testing on new and legacy products.

Support project planning activities, including schedule development, budgeting, and progress reporting.

Skills & Qualifications

Proficiency in SolidWorks, including Design, Drawing, PDM, and Simulation tools.

Understanding of drawing creation standards per ASME Y14.5-2009.

Ability to design, document, and analyze components commonly used in embedded-system packaging (molded plastics, sheet metal, gaskets, PCBs, LCDs, cables, labels).

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal oversight; highly self-driven.

Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.

Education & Experience

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.

1-3 years of experience in mechanical engineering and product design (minimum of 1 year with an MS).

Experience in a medical device or other highly regulated industry strongly preferred.

Familiarity with IEC 60601 is a plus.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Irvine, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
