Summary The Associate Administrator (AA) for Strategic Sealift is the Senior Executive that provides guidance to the Maritime Administrator (MARAD) in the implementation and administration of all legislation, regulations, Executive Orders, and other directives which authorize MARAD to promote and maintain a U.S. merchant fleet to meet the national security requirements of the United States. Responsibilities The Associate Administrator will: Support the Administrator in fulfilling MARAD's responsibilities in connection with the acquisition, maintenance, disposition management of a reserve fleet of vessels for sealift support for the DoW, and Emergency Support Functions. Oversee the Office of Cargo and Commercial Sealift which administers and implements a variety of programs related to the promotion of government-impelled cargo opportunities for U.S. flag ships. Represent MARAD in relations with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and other foreign governments in the area of civil sealift support for military contingencies and other national emergencies. Oversee the Office of Federal Sealift which administers policies and programs for the operation, maintenance and repair, including MARAD's statutory responsibilities in connection with the acquisition, operation, maintenance, logistics support, management and disposal of vessels, Government-owned or acquired merchant ships, in support of the U.S. Department of War (DoW), and Emergency Support Functions for civil emergency preparedness response and defense sealift requirements. Oversee the implementation of a variety of programs related to the oversight of government-impelled cargo opportunities for U.S.-flag ships. Advise the Administrator on matters under review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. with potential to affect the marine transportation system.
