GENERAL DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW OF JOB:
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs is seeking a Communications Specialist to join the Office of External Affairs. As a Communications Specialist at DCA, you will play a vital role in implementing our agency's communication strategy. You will be responsible for crafting compelling and informative content for a variety of platforms, including press releases, graphic design, social media, and other marketing collateral. Your writing and content creation will help to promote awareness of our programs and initiatives, engage our stakeholders, and enhance our agency's reputation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Storytelling: Develop engaging narratives that highlight the impact of our programs and initiatives on communities across Georgia.
Graphic Design: Create visually appealing designs for a variety of print and digital materials, including brochures, flyers, infographics, presentations, and reports.
Content Creation: Produce high-quality written content for press releases, blog posts, social media updates, annual reports, and other marketing materials.
Research: Conduct thorough research on relevant topics to ensure accuracy and credibility of content.
Collaboration: Work closely with members on the communications team, program managers, and program staff to align messaging with organizational goals.
Editing and Proofreading: Review and edit content to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to brand guidelines.
Campaign Support: Assist in the development and execution of communication campaigns to promote key initiatives and events and ensure adherence to brand guidelines across various collateral.
Social Media Management: Work closely with the social media team to create visually engaging content for various platforms, including graphics, animations, and video clips.
Creative Ideation: Contribute innovative ideas and concepts for written or visual communication strategies.
Monitor Trends: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in copywriting and content marketing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
Proven experience as a copywriter or content creator, preferably in a government agency or nonprofit organization.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Strong research abilities and the capacity to distill complex information into clear, concise messaging.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with content management systems and social media platforms.
Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
Experience with photography and videography, including shooting, editing, and post-production techniques.
Familiarity with social media platforms and best practices for creating engaging written and visual content.
Excellent creative and conceptual skills, with a keen eye for typography, color, and layout.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.

WORKING CONDITIONS (TRAVEL, HOURS, ENVIRONMENT)
This position is currently designated as a hybrid (part in-office and part remote/Telework) position. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and may require occasional overtime. Local periodic travel may be required.
PHYSICAL / SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Work is principally stationary, but the person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc., and constantly operates a computer and other office equipment.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
Must be able to perform office-related duties.
Must be able to operate office equipment.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, tenants, and community agencies and other entities that provide services.
Must be able to perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must maintain punctuality and attendance as scheduled.
