Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Technician to join a collaborative and driven research team supporting a wide range of outstanding health sciences programs. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial management of basic, translational, mechanistic, and population research initiatives within a dynamic academic environment.

The Accounting Technician will join a team of three responsible for the management and oversight of a diverse financial portfolio that includes UNCHF accounts, trust fund accounts, and professorship accounts. This role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills to support financial operations, reporting, and compliance.

Location: Chapel Hill, NC (Hybrid)

Pay Range: $22-$25/hour (based on experience)

Key Responsibilities:

Manage and maintain financial records for a portfolio of UNCHF, trust fund, and professorship accounts.

Serve as a primary point of contact for financial inquiries from management, principal investigators, and administrative staff; resolve financial issues and discrepancies.

Perform a full range of accounting functions, including maintaining complex accounting records and supporting financial operations.

Reconcile monthly statements from university accounting systems and ensure accuracy of financial data.

Prepare and generate financial reports for administrative managers and faculty.

Analyze financial data for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and implement problem-solving strategies.

Interpret and apply university policies, procedures, and financial regulations to ensure compliance.

Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to support financial planning and research program success.

Qualifications:

Experience in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.

Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage complex financial data and maintain accurate records.

Excellent communication and customer service skills to support faculty and management inquiries.

Proficiency with accounting systems, financial reporting tools, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel) preferred.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment.

Work Environment:

Hybrid schedule based in Chapel Hill, NC.

Collaborative, research-focused academic setting supporting innovative health sciences programs.
