Capital Blue Cross' internship program is looking for highly motivated, creative individuals with diverse backgrounds, superior academic credentials and significant personal achievements who are actively enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced degree program, to work in a challenging environment where contribution, teamwork and communication are vital to the success of the organization.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
We are offering an opportunity for one law student to participate in a paid internship within our Legal Department during the summer of 2026. The intern is not entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship. Capital prefers the intern to commit to working full-time (37.5 hours a week). The position is a hybrid one, meaning that the successful candidate will be on site some of the time, but work primarily in a remote location.
The Capital Blue Cross Legal Department consists of approximately nine attorneys. Among other things, the attorneys provide counsel to Capital Blue Cross and its affiliated companies regarding state and federal health insurance regulatory law, general corporate law, financial laws and regulations that relate to insurance companies, interactions with state and federal regulators, employment and personnel matters, contracts and negotiations with providers, contracts and leases, and general legal advice. The internship will be under the supervision of an Associate General Counsel.
The intern will be able to enhance his/her educational experience and will benefit from providing assistance to the Legal Department with legal research and written advice related to the aforementioned areas of the law. The intern will also have an opportunity to attend a variety of business meetings related to the intern's research and areas of interest, attend meetings related to Capital Blue Cross operations and become familiar with the business of health insurance.
Paid internship positions are available and based out of our corporate office in Harrisburg.
Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of experiences through meaningful work assignments, observation opportunities, and social interactions.
In the spirit of Capital Blue Cross, interns will be given the opportunity to complete a service project with one of our community partners
Interns will participate in ongoing company initiatives and be challenged to translate their classroom learning into fresh perspectives that positively impact our colleagues, members, and the communities we serve.
Interns will have the opportunity to formally present the outcomes of their experience and share their unique perspective to our executive and extended leadership team.
In an effort to provide students with feedback and continued investment in their growth, a variety of Capital team members will provide interns with periodic feedback and professional development programming.
The internship program strives to provide interns with formal and informal opportunities for the interns to network with Capital Blue Cross staff and participate in company-wide learning events.
Position Requirements:
The intern must be currently enrolled in a JD level program
Exposure to basic Microsoft Excel
Preferred GPA of 3.2 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale or equivalent thereof)
Ability to commit full-time to a 13-week program that runs May 18- August 14
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work in a team environment and handle multiple tasks.
Excellent analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
Ability to commit to a hybrid work schedule.
Location:
This position is classified hybrid, which requires onsite work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Upon selection, the intern must meet the following requirements: (1) successful completion of a standard background check; (2) attendance at Capital Blue Cross' orientation; (3) agree to be subject to and comply with the Capital Blue Cross Code of Conduct and confidentiality requirements; (4) attend privacy, compliance and sexual harassment training; and (5) comply with Capital Blue Cross' other applicable corporate policies.
