JFT offers some work from home flexibility, but candidates must be within commuting distance to the office. The anticipated closing date for this posting is 1/31/26 and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Job Function:
The Project Engineer - ME III supports their team with a high level of engineering experience while providing leadership on specific projects and within their group.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
As a Project Engineer - ME III, you will provide leadership within your group and act as a primary technical point of contact for the Sr. Project Engineer. You will use your expertise to bring design concepts to life by developing them into effective engineering solutions with minimal oversight.
Your role includes guiding the team in producing precise manufacturing drawings incorporating limits and fits, welding symbols, geometric tolerances, and surface finishes. You will review and approve detailed part and assembly drawings, as well as full engineering calculations, assuring accuracy. Additionally, you will produce, review, and validate technical reports and documents to align with contract and quality requirements. Your expertise will be instrumental in selecting components and systems based on calculations and hands-on experience while driving cost-effective innovations to streamline design processes. You will also manage change control, oversee contract scope variations, and work closely with other engineering disciplines within an integrated design team.
As a leader within your team, you will provide guidance to engineers on industry standards, techniques, and best practices. You will also collaborate with project engineering leads and managers, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with established procedures. Additionally, you will contribute valuable insights to support business development and new project quotations.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, with a minimum of 8 years of design experience.
Nuclear or high hazardous remote special purpose machinery design experience and knowledge of nuclear design procedures a plus.
Experience with calculations (FEA, stress/fatigue/vibration analysis) preferred.
Professional Engineer or working towards achieving.
Knowledge of drawing principles and standards including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, as well as familiarity with EFD'S, P&ID's and MFD's.
Working knowledge of complex mechanical equipment, fabrications, manufacturing techniques, materials, and processes.
Skilled in both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design (Inventor and Vault system/SolidWorks) software packages.
Understanding of ISO 9001 and NQA-1 Quality Assurance Programs and EH&S legislation, as well as commercial awareness and business acumen.
Typical Working Conditions:
Primarily an office environment with work periodically performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. Depending on the project, there may be occasional travel to customer job sites. JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers, and vendors is essential. May occasionally lift and carry objects, typically under 50 pounds. At times, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling to access and inspect equipment is required.
Access to Restricted Information:
This role requires immediate and routine access to restricted information under federal law, including but not limited to Export Controlled Information (ECI), Unclassified Controlled Nuclear Information (UCNI), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), Department of Energy Official Use Only (DOE OUO), and/or ITAR-controlled technical data. Under applicable DOE orders and client contracts, non-U.S. citizen candidates (including lawful permanent residents) may require an approved DOE Foreign National Visit/Assignment (FNVA) before beginning work or accessing project information. Because this position requires immediate access and project timelines do not accommodate new government approval processing, JFT may be unable to initiate or sponsor new FNVA approval processes or defer start dates pending FNVA approval for this role. Accordingly, hiring and placement into this role is contingent on the candidate's eligibility to access the required information and facilities as of the start date, including having any required government approvals already in place.
