POSITION SUMMARY/DETAILS:

Support plant electrical engineer with task like assisting in electrical system design, equipment maintenance and testing, conduct field data collection, update electrical drawings, troubleshooting equipment, managing documentation, ensuring safety compliance, and learning plant operations for areas like power distribution, motors, controls, protective relays, transformers, and generators.

Accountabilities:

Electrical design/drafting: Assist with creating and updating existing electrical drawings

Field Support: Collect technical data, take readings, and support maintenance projects

Testing & Troubleshooting: Help set up testing equipment, perform component level debugging, validate designs, and troubleshoot issues of plant equipment

Project Assistance: Support project planning, implementation, and execution under plant engineer's guidance

Safety & Compliance: Adhere to strict work safety rules, ensure electrical codes are met, and support environmental compliance

Learning: Actively learn plant operations, system interactions (power electronics, controls, grid connection), and engineering principles through observation and instruction

Physical Location of Co-op: Polk Power Station 9995 FL-37S, Mulberry, FL 33860

Working Conditions: Power Station but mostly in an office environment. Occasional field walking and may be exposed to heights, dusty, hot, and noisy environments.

Preferred Availability: Part time (20-30 hours)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.

Co-Op Requirements:

To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university's co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.

A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.

Required Degree: Engineering
