United Therapeutics (Nasdaq: UTHR ) seeks to travel down the corridors of indifference to develop treatments for rare, deadly diseases. We were founded in 1996 by a family seeking a cure for their daughter's pulmonary arterial hypertension ( PAH ). Today, we have six FDA-approved therapies that treat PAH, pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease ( PH-ILD ) and neuroblastoma, a rare pediatric cancer. Our near-term pipeline seeks to develop additional therapies for PAH and pulmonary fibrosis ( PF ).

The cure for end-stage life-threatening diseases like PAH, PH-ILD, PF, and many others is an organ transplant, but only a small percentage of donated organs are available to address the vast need. For this reason, we are working to create manufactured organs to address the shortage of kidneys, hearts, lungs, and livers available for transplant. We believe an unlimited supply of tolerable, transplantable organs will eliminate the transplant waiting list and cure end-stage organ diseases for which transplant is not currently an option.

How you'll contribute

The Associate Electrical Engineer contributes to the design, development, and testing of embedded systems used in next-generation regenerative medicine systems. The role involves collaboration with scientists and senior engineers to support the development of reliable, high-precision hardware at the intersection of engineering and biology.

Support the design and implementation of embedded electronics for laboratory instruments, sensors, and automated manufacturing platforms

Develop, debug, and maintain firmware in C for microcontroller-based systems

Implement low-level software in Python or Rust for embedded platforms

Build, test, and validate PCB assemblies, sensor interfaces, and control circuitry

Participate in integration of electrical subsystems with fluidics, thermal control, and other biologically relevant modules

Conduct bench-level testing, data collection, and troubleshooting to ensure system performance and reliability

Maintain documentation including schematics, test procedures, firmware notes, and design history records

Collaborate with scientists and product teams to translate biological requirements into hardware and firmware specifications

Support compliance with GAMP standards and good engineering practices

For this role you will need

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related field

Foundational experience with microcontrollers (ARM, PIC, AVR, etc.) and embedded C/C++ Strong understanding of digital and analog circuits, sensors, and signal conditioning

Experience with Github or other software repository

Familiarity with PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad, or similar)

Ability to read schematics, use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers), and perform complex debugging

Knowledge of Python, Rust or similar high level programming languages

Preferred Qualifications

Understanding of control systems, motor drivers, thermal control, or sensing
