Summary The Woodcrafter's primary purpose is to perform the full range of tasks associated with installation, maintenance, renovation, and repair of all structures; walls, ceilings, doors, floors, masonry, and furniture. Responsibilities Incumbent performs interior and exterior building operations, repair, and maintenance work. Duties includes work involved in constructing, altering, maintaining and repairing buildings, metal and wood doors and door frames, structures, partitions, panels, tool cabinets, bookcases, work benches, and other items using wood, wood substitutes, and composite building materials or maintaining, installing, repairing, and weatherproofing roofs. Performs carpentry work using independent judgments and decisions, and the work requires little supervisory review. Plans and completes projects involving the construction, alteration, repairing, and/or modifying of framework, rafters, doors and hardware, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams. Makes and repairs high-grade decorative woodwork for use in homes, offices and other public facilities. Operates and uses carpentry and a variety of other tools Constructs walls, sidewalks, chimneys, fireplaces, manholes, and boilers. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent works in tiring positions for prolonged periods; frequent standing, bending and stooping, crouching and arm movement; frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 45 pounds, and may occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Incumbent usually works in a machine shop or enclosed area, which may be unheated; frequently exposed to eye, skin, nose and lung irritations from glue, bonding chemicals, vapors, splinters, and sawdust; possibility or receiving cuts and serious injuries such as loss of fingers from accidents while operating woodworking machines. Incumbent wears or uses safety clothing and equipment and may work in inclement weather. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
