This position will be part of the Enterprise Services team, which delivers a full suite of services to state agencies, boards, councils, and commissions, and many central services to local government partners.
Minnesota IT Services (MNIT) is seeking an experience Cloud & On-Prem Database Administrator to join our Database Services team. This role is responsible for the administration, design, and strategic leadership of large complex database environments supporting State of Minnesota agencies. This role focuses primarily on Microsoft SQL Server (on-premises and Azure) while providing cross-platform support for Db2 and Oracle.
In this position, you will lead database projects, evaluate emerging technologies, and contribute to enterprise standards and policy development. Key responsibilities include implementing and managing high-availability database solutions, designing and enforcing security and disaster recover protocols, developing ETL processes, and providing expert performance tuning and troubleshooting. In addition, you will mentor junior staff and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, secure, and optimized database operations.
This position requires an employee to be onsite at 600 North Robert Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Minimum Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in database administration and management across on-premises and cloud environments.
Experience must include:
Administration and management of Microsoft SQL Server (on-premises and Azure) including Managed-Instances, Azure SQL, HA Configuration with Windows-Clusters and AlwaysOn.
Implementing and maintaining database security back-up/recovery, performance tuning, and disaster recovery strategies.
Provisioning and managing Azure Resources (including Resource-Grp, SQLMI, Windows/Linux VMs, Storage-Accounts, Network cfg).
Developing and supporting ETL solutions using tools such as SSIS.
Automating database administration tasks using scripting language on Windows and Linux (e.g., CloudShell, PowerShell, Korn/Bourne Shell, Azure-CLI commands) and use of DevOps/Github for source control.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.
Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months.
Preferred Qualifications
Eight (8) years of experience with SQL Server running on Azure.
Experience supporting multiple database platforms such as Db2 and Oracle.
Experience with cloud database platforms and services (e.g. Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud).
Experience with ITSM tools (Helix or ServiceNow).
Experience with creating and maintaining Power BI reports.
Experience with automation and orchestration tools for database management (e.g., Ansible).
Professional certification such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Certified Professional.
