Position Purpose
??This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a residence hall complex on campus. The incumbent is responsible for the selection, training, and supervision of undergraduate and graduate student hall staff and delivery of services they provide. Presence on campus provides student contact for purposes of community development, programming, response to emergency situations, and provision of conflict resolution, helping skills, crisis management and facilities maintenance of an on-campus environment supportive of residents' academic success.?

Responsibilities
Responsibility #1: Oversight of Student Staff:
Provide leadership and direction to the area/complex.
Select, train, and supervise resident life staff to include graduate assistant, desk manager(s), apartment assistant(s), resident assistant(s), and desk worker(s).
Facilitate weekly staff meetings and one on ones with student staff.
Hold student staff accountable to responsibilities of their position.
Support student staff development and growth through training, staff development activities, and personal/professional goals.
Serve as an indirect supervisor to support Learning Community Mentors in their complex with building relationships with students and addressing individual and community concerns.
Responsibility #2: Community Development and Conduct:
Provide direction and support student staff in areas of student development, residence life/student life curriculum, programming and service delivery.
Develop, implement and quantify assessment tools to measure student development, learning, needs, and satisfaction with the quality of on-campus life and services.
Maintain area programming budget(s) and coordinate purchase of supplies.
Maintain an academic emphasis in the halls to support student success.
Uphold student conduct as outlined in the MSUM Student Handbook and the Housing and Dining Contract and facilitate conduct hearings.
Meet with students to support development and growth in areas of conflict management, relationship building, resource referrals, personal wellbeing and behavioral concerns.
Responsibility #3: Departmental Support:
Participate in departmental meetings and work groups.
Represent Residence Life in university committees as requested or assigned.
Responsible for summer activities, such as summer school housing, conference housing and staff training development.
Collaborate and communicate closely with Housing leadership.
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director/Associate Director.
Responsibility #4: Safety, Security, and Crisis Management:
Provide emergency response to situations in and around residence halls by participating in an on-call duty rotation of professional/graduate staff.
Recommend actions and/or procedures to maintain compliance with health and safety needs.
Responsibility #5: Facilities Management:
Accomplish the opening and closing of residence halls.
Conduct annual key audit after hall closing in May.
Submit maintenance request for facility concerns.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in Student Affairs, College Personnel Administration, Education Administration, Counseling, or related field. OR Bachelor's Degree, plus one year of professional experience in student affairs or related field. Or two years of professional experience or a combination of post-secondary training, education and/or professional experience.
Experience in residence hall supervision and management or similar experience.
Experience in staff selection, supervision, and training
Experience having conversations with students in a variety of manners including student conduct, academic success, personal well-being, conflict resolution, and mediation.
Experience creating programs and initiatives based on learning outcomes
Strong written and oral communication skills
Commitment and ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with residential curricular approach.
Experience fostering student leadership development and advising student organizations or related experience.
Experience working with living learning communities and other retention initiatives.
Experience supervising graduate students.
Other Requirements

Live-in required.
On-call duty required with additional compensation.
Weekend/evening assignments occasionally required.
Overtime/Extended hours occasionally required.
Must pass a background check in accordance with the Kari Koskinen law and annual driver's record check.
Will need to be able to access all locations within residence hall structures.
Will need the ability to shop for supplies which may include driving.
