Job Description
This position under general supervision performs semi-skilled jobs within a variety of trade areas. The duties include but are not limited to: performing maintenance on equipment, making minor adjustments to equipment, repairs to building and/or equipment, responsible for completing work in accordance with established procedures or from detailed instructions.
Salary Range:
$26.77 - $30.81 per hour; pay within this range is dependent on education and work experience and internal equity.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
General methods and practices of the mechanical, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting trades.
Methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.
Occupational hazards and safety measures.
Ability to:
Perform semi-skilled work in a number of trade areas and to assist with more difficult work.
Instruct and direct work study and student workers.
Physical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions:
Requires occasionally lifting articles such as 50-pound maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
Must possess a current Class D driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to determine and prioritize duties to be accomplished on a daily basis.
The ability to work with diverse cultures and populations.
English (speaking, reading, writing) sufficient to interpret and respond in a clear and concise manner.
Possess a Class C Boilers license.
Basic understanding of heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing systems.
Knowledge of Building Operating Control Systems.
Basic computer skills.
Responsibilities
?? Responsibility #1 Building repairs and restoration. Repair, maintain, make adjustments and/or replacements on heating, electrical, mechanical equipment and furnishings. Repair, maintain, or install building components such as: walls, floors, ceilings, sidewalks, parking lots, and minor roof work. Repair, adjust, and maintain door hardware locks.

Responsibility #2 Operate and maintain skid steer, trucks and other grounds and lot maintenance equipment, as required. General upkeep of grounds including but not limited to mowing grass and shoveling snow.
?? Responsibility #3 Perform minor custodial duties which include but are not limited to:
a. Monitor boilers to ensure proper operation, including checking water gauges and pumps.
b. Vacuum, sweep, and clean building on an occasional basis.
c. Strip, wax, and reseals tile floor and cleans carpet as necessary.
d. Set-up facilities for special events.
?? Responsibility #4 Remove rubbish and garbage to transfer station, unload trucks.
?? Responsibility #5 Coordinates, assigns, and monitors work of student workers and work-study students.

Responsibility #6 Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Other Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
