Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Assist in the design, prototyping, and testing of embedded systems focused on optical sensing technology.
· Contribute to system proto@types, integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components.
· Support hardware development for fiber optics-based systems, including PCB design and fabrication.
· Participate in experiments involving fiber optics, light-based sensors, and interferometry.
· Troubleshoot and optimize system performance in both optical and electrical systems.
· Document project work, including test plans, results, and technical reports.
· Present progress in design reviews to peers and leadership.
· Ensure project activities comply with company quality policies, regulatory standards, and design controls.
Job Qualifications:
· Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
· Interest in interdisciplinary work that combines electrical, mechanical, and software skills in embedded systems development.
· Exposure to fiber optics, light-based sensors, interferometry, or optical systems a plus
· Exposure to embedded systems, microcontrollers, or PCB design (e.g., Altium, Eagle).
· Interest or exposure to optical and electrical testing equipment such as spectrometers, light sources, and power meters.
· Hands-on experience or interest in prototyping and building mechanical or electrical systems.
· Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic coding skills (e.g., Python, C/C++).
· Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in the medical device industry.
· Knowledge of optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V).
· Familiarity with PCB design software (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCad).
· Experience with embedded software design (e.g., STM32, Arduino, Python).
· Familiarity with fabrication tools such as 3D printers or machining.
· Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$23.00/hr to $51.50/hr
Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The expected pay range for this position is between $23.00 per hour and $51.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension).
