Role Overview:
As a Parole Officer, you will assist with the oversight of District Office or Division Programs and will be responsible for compliance with Department of Correction Policy, Procedures, and Division Directives. This ensures that all laws and the rights of individuals are protected. This position will include all parole officer responsibilities and include the supervision of professional staff. The incumbent will act as the immediate liaison between the manager and assigned staff. This position is responsible for ensuring that Parole Services follows IC 11-13-3-1 through IC 11-13-3-10, IC 35-38-1-7.5, IC 11-8-8-5, IC 35-50-6-1 (e), IC 35-38-1-29, and IC 35-44.1-3-9.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $59,800.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Provide technical assistance on a continuous basis, clarify and interpret policies, assist in resolving problems, plan and implement statewide training sessions, and prepare correspondence.
Complete an initial Risk Assessment and a Re-entry Accountability Plan on each offender. Subsequently, Re-entry Accountability Plans are required by policy.
Maintain and provide accurate electronic and written records concerning all aspects of the supervision of assigned parolees, on a regular and ad hoc basis.
Communicate with parolees and complete subsequent case notes as required, and as dictated by the risk assessment at a work site, home, office, or other location.
Monitor a parolee's movement, housing, employment, and other services, including for registered sex offenders.
Provide counseling services to offenders transitioning back into the community, including direction and assistance in securing employment, schooling, training and/or housing for offenders leaving the custody of the department.
Promote and develop community resources for offender programs and treatment, and maintain records of community resources
Conduct community-based investigations for clemency and parole, including parole violations, per Departmental and State laws and procedures. This may include apprehension of offenders who have violated the conditions of parole.
Serve as an expert witness/subject matter expert in various legal proceedings and hearings.
Hold probable cause hearings, administer drug/alcohol screenings to offenders, and promote and develop community resources.
Respond to emergency contacts on a 24 hour/7 days per week basis.
Transport or assist in the transportation of offenders to departmental facilities.
Provide research to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate parole system performance.
Maintain necessary statistical data required for reports, audits, public information, and statewide coordination of program delivery system.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) required.
Five (5) years of full-time professional experience in correctional counseling, criminology, parole or probation work, law enforcement, social work or related required; plus, one (1) year full-time administrative, managerial, or supervisory experience in any of the above areas, or successful completion of DOC Supervisory Training.
Substitutions: Accredited college training in any of the above areas may substitute for the required experience with a maximum substitution of four (4) years.
Must maintain firearm certification as well as carry a firearm in the performance of duties. This includes successful completion of Parole Academy as part of initial onboarding.
Must test negative on all drug screenings.
Thorough knowledge of, and experience with, policies and procedures of state government related specifically to corrections and parole. This may include social work, parole casework, and federal and state laws governing parole, etc.
Extensive knowledge of policies of industrial, governmental, and community organizations available for use in aiding welfare of parolees.
Specialized knowledge of agency/program objectives, regulations, and administrative policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate complex theories and principles to a broad spectrum, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret, and correlate technical material.
Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to apply as needed.
Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
