Overview

The Scientist II works collaboratively as part of a team providing analytical support for environmental samples in accordance with regulatory methods and guidelines. The Scientist II receives guidance from the department lead, Scientist IV, and/or Scientist III to ensure alignment and coordination with other personnel. This role is primarily responsible for analyzing environmental samples for organic contaminants using Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The Scientist II applies appropriate methodologies for environmental analysis, actively participates in proficiency testing, and maintains accurate quality records as required.

Responsibilities

Conduct GC/MS using client specific methods 524.2, 624 and SW-846 method 8260b on primarily environmental samples.

Evaluation, method development and implementation of new methods according to customer requirements/requests.

Perform routine diagnosis, troubleshooting, light repairs and maintenance of analytical instrumentation.

Adheres to all guidelines established methods and laboratory standard operating procedures including active participation in quality control set forth in all.

Actively participates in contractor quality and safety program, conducts peer reviews.

Participates in providing innovative approaches to technical problems, contributes to the overall increase in lab efficiency through adaptive thought and information exchanges.

Guides and trains assigned personnel as required and advises supervisory personnel of their progress.

Responsible for review and generation of Standard Operating Procedures

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree with at least five years' experience conducting analysis of organic compounds using GC-MS technology.

Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation used for analysis of organic compounds.

Strong attention to detail, familiar with interpretation methodologies and documentation of processes.

Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems for data entry, processing and reporting

Professional knowledge of good laboratory practices, chemical principles, theories and established methodology sufficient to perform analyses on a wide variety of environmental samples.

Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Pay Range

USD $64,770.00 - USD $64,770.00 /Yr.
