Position Summary: The Air Advisor Instruction / Mobility Support Advisor Squadron (MSAS) Instructor/SME provides expert instruction and educational leadership in advisor mission planning, execution, cross-cultural teaching methodology, and lesson evaluation for USAF and DoD personnel. The position shapes curriculum and courseware, supports student achievement, and ensures continuous improvement of MSAS and Air Advisor training requirements. The SME serves as an essential link between curriculum modernization and operational success for mobility support advisors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
These services are required to support unique efforts which may require:
Meet minimum USAF EOS Student and Qualified Instructor requirements at government expense and IAW EOS-established policy
Serve as the focal point and SME in their respective discipline. When qualified, be prepared to assist and teach lessons in other disciplines as determined by the Site Manager.
Provide technical support, planning, consultation, analysis and expert advice to establish, maintain, and improve their respective area's instruction.
Develop, update, revise, and deliver their respective area curriculum and courseware within USAF EOS-established policy.
Provide instruction on National Security Strategy, DoD regulations, Irregular Warfare, and more
Ensure the most current student education and training materials are used and are provided to each student at the beginning of each lesson, as required
Produce, assemble, and manage student materials as required to include paper and/or electronic (DVDs, etc.) based training materials provided by the Government
Prepare classroom for instruction and ensure academic equipment, projectors, televisions, computer learning stations, etc., including uploading of computer-based training, if applicable, are functional
Begin each lesson on time and teach for the prescribed amount of time IAW the student schedule unless the COR authorizes a schedule deviation
Perform instruction/demonstration and student evaluations as required by the syllabi and lesson plan. Maintain satisfactory or above on Government administered instructor evaluations.
Review learning objectives with students in preparation for examinations
Follows USAF EOS-established policy for make-up/remedial instruction for missed classes or failed examinations
Attend meetings, conferences, and symposiums on topics related to their area of expertise and participate in instructor professional development
Be prepared to teach lessons as directed by the Site Manager to balance instructor workload and to meet mission requirements
Specific Duties Related to Type of Instructor:
Provide instruction and evaluations to students on security cooperation concepts including authorities, command relationships, mission planning, execution and reporting.
Provide instruction on teaching methodology relative to a cross-cultural environment.
Teach subjects such as, but not limited to Command Relationships, Risk Management, Security Cooperation, Funding and Legal Authorities, Force Protection Mindset, History of AMC GPF Advising, Theater-Specific Dynamics / US Foreign Policy, Mission Planning and Coordination, and US Embassy Operations, Personalizing Lesson Plans, Using Training Aids Effectively, Effective Presentation Skills, and Maintaining Control in the Classroom.
Review student lesson plans, analyze student instructor's delivery skills, and provide effective feedback.
Provide course support to include curriculum development/management, course scheduling, and administration.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to obtain/maintain Secret Clearance
Fluent English, advanced communication skills
U.S. Citizenship/Residency required
Must possess a valid passport and driver's license
Master's degree from an accredited college or university
Have deployed as a Military Advisor, Political-Military (Pol-Mil) Affairs Strategists (PAS) Officer, Regional Affairs Strategists (RAS) Officer, Foreign Area Officer (FAO), Foreign Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) member, attaché or security assistance officer (SCO), or in a position equivalent to one of the above having military advisory experience.
Completed Air Command and Staff College, Senior NCO Academy, or sister school equivalent, in-residence or by correspondence
Ability to collaborate and present in a classroom and cross-functional setting
Professional conduct and compliance with all USAF EC policies
Ability to teach, present, and manage classroom environments
Some lifting/moving of teaching materials/equipment; ability to stand for extended periods
Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
