Summary This position includes daily interaction with the members of the facility Executive Leadership Team (ELT), their Executive Assistants, Secretaries and Service Chiefs. This key staff member is administratively responsible for the daily operations of the Director's office. Responsibilities Recommends changes in administrative policies. Provides oversight of the daily operations of the Director's office. Uses critical thinking skills to prioritize activities. Assess competency related to the training and processes. De-escalates situations involving individuals that are upset, both Veterans and staff members. Prepares agenda and conducts training in all phases of administrative procedures such as correspondence, telephone procedures, publications, directives, and reports. Serves as facility subject matter expert for administrative processes. Responds to inquiries and administrative problems brought to the office by members of the staff and officials of the agency, State and local governments, other hospitals and organizations, other Federal agencies, and congressional staff. Provides guidance and training on administrative policies, procedures, and common rules of written correspondence. Updates position descriptions, organizational chart. Coordinates meetings, events, accreditation visits, and other functions requiring the participation of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). Provides orientation to new employees in the Director's office. Interacts with all levels of staff, Veterans, family members, Veterans Service Organizations, Congressional Staffers, VISN and VACO. Provides guidance to individuals requesting assistance following the appropriate chain of command. Assess competency related to the training and processes. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/12/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
