About this Job
The Academic Advisor, Senior Transitions Specialist, works as a member of the LSUS Student Success Center, performing a range of tasks enhancing and supporting our academic advising team and students. This position will serve as a generalist advisor to undergraduate students of all backgrounds and majors, while also monitoring and implementing strategies to ensure that final-year students are guided effectively in identifying their remaining graduation requirements. Responsibilities include coordinating resources and processes to maximize credit accumulation for timely graduation, guidance through graduation application processes, and support program coordination helping students prepare for transition from college to career. This position fosters personalized advising support aimed at addressing barriers, promoting engagement, and ensuring students are fully prepared for life after graduation.
Reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Advising, Special Populations, and is a full-time, unclassified position. This summary is not intended to be a comprehensive or all-inclusive description of duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.

Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in areas such as student success, academic or career advising, or other roles in higher education.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in student personnel services, higher education administration, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
Extensive experience in academic advising, particularly with graduating students.
Familiarity with career services and transition programs for final-year students or graduates.
Experience in teaching college-level courses or workshops related to career preparation.

Job Duties and Other Information
Position Duties & Responsibilities:
Academic Advising & Student Support
Serve as a university-wide academic advisor, guiding students in course selection, degree planning, and academic progress across diverse majors and classifications.
Conduct individual advising sessions to assist students in understanding academic requirements, course equivalencies, and academic planning.
Administer and interpret assessment tools (e.g., College Student Inventory, Appreciative Advising Inventory, Focus 2 Career) to better understand student needs and tailor interventions.
Incorporate career readiness initiatives into academic advising, encouraging students to engage in internships, experiential learning, and networking opportunities.
Senior Transitions Programs
Serve as the coordinator responsible for tracking senior readiness for graduation, ensuring alignment among all advisors in their support and outreach efforts.
Conduct outreach to seniors to schedule mandatory 90-hour senior check appointments to review their progress to confirm they are on schedule for graduation and meet all necessary requirements.
Support advising team members in collaborating with academic departments and the Registrar's office to proactively resolve any issues related to degree completion, including necessary course substitution processes.
Assist students in understanding graduation requirements and career planning, with a focus on enhancing their readiness for life after college.
Work closely with Career Services to coordinate and promote programs that prepare final-year students for both graduation and their transition into the workforce or further education.
Data & Continuous Improvement
Maintain accurate student records and document all advising interactions.
Collect feedback from graduating students to improve advising practices and support initiatives.
Collaborate with the Registrar's office to ensure the accuracy of graduation records and the effective tracking of graduation checkout processes.
Partner with Career Services to monitor student career milestones and successes following graduation, including promoting completion of the First Destination Survey (FDS).
Professional Development
Stay informed about university policies, degree requirements, and emerging practices in student advising, particularly those relevant to graduating students and post-graduate preparations.
Pursue ongoing training related to career advising, student development, job placement strategies, and culturally responsive practices to better assist final-year students.
Engage in professional conferences, workshops, and certification opportunities focused on career readiness, transitions support, and advising practices to enhance skills in supporting students preparing for graduation and life after college.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Light Work- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.
