Summary

The medical advocate supports victims and survivors of domestic violence within healthcare settings. Assist individuals in navigating the healthcare system to ensure they receive the care and resources they need.

Essential functions

Provide crises intervention, support and counseling through emotional support and crisis intervention to domestic violence survivors in medical settings. Advocate for the survivor's healthcare rights, including privacy and safety considerations.

Accompany survivors to medical appointments to ensure they feel safe and supported and ensure smooth delivery of services.

Provide emergency coverage in-person after-hours in hospitals, legal, or police settings.

Assist survivors in understanding their medical care, treatment plans, and available resources.

Collaborates with various medical institutions to provide training, resources, and system-wide change. Coordinate other staff who are providing outreach services and training to the medical community.

Educate healthcare staff about identifying and responding to signs of domestic violence.

Develop and implement protocols for screening and responding to domestic violence cases in clinical environments.

Act as a liaison between medical staff, domestic violence service providers or other agencies and systems on behalf of client.

Connect clients with recounseling, shelter, legal services, and other community resources.

Facilitate the development of project oversite committees in various medical settings. Assist with "system advocacy" efforts as requested.

Maintain accurate records of interactions with clients while ensuring confidentiality.

Report incidents following legal and organizational policies.

Conduct training sessions for medical staff on trauma-informed care practices.

Represent Crisis Center North on local, regional, and/or statewide committees that represent the interest victims of domestic violence and increase awareness of domestic violence resouces.

Contribute to organizational goals and objectives as a team member and attend all required staff meetings, training sessions and provide reports to fellow staff regarding program.

Represent CCN on all funding and or regional committees.

Participate in PCADV Medical Medical Advocacy Task Force Meetings or other related committees as needed.

Recruit, train and monitor volunteer medical advocates to exapnd the capacity of CCN's Medical Advocacy Program and participate in the 48-hour training of all volunteers.

Track and document service provisions and compile stastics and relevant data for timely submission to CCN and funding sources.

Must serve on hotline

May assume other duties as required.

Knowledge,skills and abilities

Capacity to work with diverse populations and in healthcare systems.

Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices in domestic violence.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with empathy.

Familiarity with local domestic violence resources and laws.

Possess aility to work independently and exercise soud judgement.

Demonstrate high level of professionalism.

Education and qualifications

A background in social work, psychology, public health, or a related field is typically required.

Certifications in domestic violence advocacy or crisis intervention may be beneficial.

Experience in advocacy, social work, or healthcare is often preferred.
