About Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility:
As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility (PNJCF) promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. We strive to model best Correctional practices, return productive citizens to our communities, and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism. The Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility is a maximum security Correctional facility for juvenile males. Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility is located in Pendleton, Indiana. The Pendleton Juvenile Correctional facility is a campus-like structure, consisting of housing units, medical, food, and laundry services. The Programs building accommodates Providence Jr. /Sr. High School, indoor recreational facilities, and a chapel. There are outdoor recreational areas within the fenced perimeter, including baseball diamonds, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and a quarter-mile walking running track. Additionally, the facility includes a housing area for special management and behaviorally challenged youths.
Role Overview:
As the Principal at Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility, you will directly supervise 20 educational staff and ensure PNJ adheres to all DOE regulations and norms. This position is responsible for classroom observations, teacher management, and building operations.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $65,000.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Coordinate and participate in the selection of personnel for employment by the juvenile facility.
Evaluate teachers in the school according to the state's educator evaluations system.
Delegate responsibilities for various administrative tasks to other personnel utilizing their strengths and talents to effectively manage the school.
Develop and oversee teams for the purpose of communication, coordination, and ensuring that outcomes achieve the school and corporation objectives.
Facilitate communication between the community, parents, staff, and students.
Foster a culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, and trust to meet the needs of all students.
Administer systematic and effective methods of objectively monitoring student progress.
Implement policies, procedures, and processes for the purpose of providing direction or meeting mandated requirements.
Manage school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance, budgeting, staffing, discipline, attendance) for the purpose of maintaining a positive learning environment.
Participate in the facility leadership team and other teams for the purpose of receiving information and participating in the strategic plan.
Participate in meetings and professional development for the purpose of sharing information or remaining current to perform job responsibilities.
Communicate information through multiple strategies for improving the overall learning environment.
Provide professional development based upon feedback and evaluations for improving instruction and the overall culture.
Provide recommendations to the facility leadership for the purpose of making personnel, student, strategic, or facility decisions.
Serve as the instructional and curricular leader for the purpose of providing direction for the staff in providing a quality education for students.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
Master's Degree in Education or Special Education
Valid license or emergency license through the State of Indiana in the Area Of Administration/Supervision
An Occupational Specialist license, or a provisional certificate or emergency permit issued by the Indiana Department of Instruction.
Willingness to attend, participate in, and successfully complete in-service training programs (at least 40 hours annually, including mandatory certifications such as CPR, personal protection, etc.).
Specialized knowledge of and ability to instruct and work with students at several developmental/behavior levels.
Ability to evaluate educational, vocational, and developmental performance and progress of students and faculty.
Ability to create and provide a positive learning environment conducive to and supportive of individual growth and development.
Ability to actively participate in professional continuing education and training as instructed and approved by supervisor.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
