: University Academic Programs comprises multiple programs that advance the academic mission of the University by providing enhanced academic programs that have the potential to reach every student and consists of the following programs: Living & Learning Communities, Center for Community Engagement to advance Scholarship & Learning, University Honors Programs, Undergraduate Research Center, First Year Seminar, the One Book One DU program, Interterm, and the University Writing Program. The unit is also responsible for the undergraduate common curriculum, university-wide student learning outcomes, student success and persistence initiatives, undergraduate academic advising, academic standards and academic appeals, and maintains institutional accreditation.

Position Summary
The Office of Academic Advising (OAA) empowers undergraduate students to be active and independent learners in pursuit of their academic success. OAA provides academic advising support to undergraduate students and faculty advisors through one-on-one meetings, classroom visits, and group workshops and trainings. OAA supports undergraduate academic recovery (probation) students, students exploring their major options, transfer students, and students who have received Daniels Fund awards and Denver Scholarship Foundation awards. OAA supports the DU Academic Advising Model by leading central communications to over 300 faculty advisors and over 15 staff advisors and through quarterly meetings.
Through daily meetings with students, this position works with all undergraduate students to ensure their transition, persistence, and success at the University. This position demonstrates a commitment to the principles of inclusive excellence through embedding inclusiveness throughout programs, services, and initiatives.
Essential Functions
Academic Advising
Responsible for implementing appropriate office processes and practices to support and inform a proactive advising model. This includes:
Holistically advising a quarterly load of approximately 300 undergraduate students with a variety of backgrounds and educational needs regarding degree planning, course registration, major/minor exploration, and understanding the Common Curriculum and general undergraduate requirements in the effort to ensure their transition, persistence, and success at DU.
Providing information and guidance on academic-related administrative processes, such as Academic Exceptions, Academic Standards, Course Overloads, and Leaves of Absence.
Proactively tracking, outreaching to and working with students identified through early intervention systems (i.e., high-risk, first generation, students who have not been in for an appointment, students on academic probation, etc.).
Coordinating and/or participating in the advising-related role of New/Transfer Student Discoveries Orientation program.
Connecting students to student support resources, offices and departments across campus, as needed, to support holistic student development and success;
Participating in the assessment and evaluation of academic policies, services, and programs.
Maintaining thorough, accurate, pertinent documentation of student records and individual advising sessions within FERPA guidelines.
Office Collaboration
Serves as a liaison and fosters intentional relationships with other departments and faculty advisors at the direction of Office leadership
Participate in unit, department and/or campus-wide committees.
Professional Development
Engages in on-going professional development activities, including but not limited to, memberships in professional organizations such as NACADA; attendance at conferences, workshops, division, and department training sessions.
Advising Model Support
At the direction of Office leadership, supports the development of trainings and resources for staff and faculty advisors across campus.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology or related field
2 years of full-time post-baccalaureate advising related experience in an educational setting.
Experience working with faculty, staff, families, and students.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
M.A. in psychology, counseling, social work, higher education, or related field
Knowledge of learning strategies, academic coaching, developmental advising models, and student development theories.
Experience with programming and outreach
Proficiency in Banner
Working Environment
Standard office environment.
Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position will work primarily on the University of Denver's Campus.

The salary grade for the position is 7.
Hourly Rate:
The hourly rate for the position is $26.40
