Summary Employee will serve as a Locksmith - Journeyman within the Maintenance and Operations Section of Engineering Service located at the John J. Pershing Veterans Medical Center and Outpatient Clinics in Popular Bluff, MO. Responsibilities The purpose of this position will be responsible for the repair, overhaul, modification, testing and installing a variety of locking devices typically found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, vaults, and other secured locations. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Performs maintenance, preventative maintenance, installation, and repair of a variety of locking and latching devices, door closures, battery operated alarms, and miscellaneous door, window and cabinetry hardware. Performs master keying, pinning, re-keying, and changing mechanical locking devices, i.e. removable core, interchangeable core, key in knob, key in lever, cylindrical and mortise locks and deadbolts. Maintains master key records and generates master key systems for each @type of locking encountered. Services and changes combinations on safes and vaults. Maintains security and locks for narcotic storage and medication storage. Installs and maintains window and door lock mechanisms. Inspects, repairs, and installs all @types and functions of locks, including doors, decks, lockers, cabinets, hinges and sliding doors, padlocks, electric panel locks and safety locks, tubular cylindrical, combination, on emergency basis in as much as all locks must be in good repair in the medical center. Removes foreign objects from locks, such as matches, chewing gum, etc. Picks or bypasses locks when keys are lost or lock is inoperable, improvising and applying neutralization techniques that do not damage the locking devices and security containers or doors during lockout situations. Determines the application for installing and maintaining electronic locks and keying devices. Programs electronic locks to function within the parameters of the application, using lock specific hardware and software. Troubleshoots and repairs electronic locks and keying devices using electronic test and repair equipment. Determines, installs, and maintains the correct door closer for a door size, weight, swing and operation. Troubleshoots and repairs or overhauls various @types of door closures. Performing related duties as required. Qualifications Screen-Out: The ability to perform the work of a Locksmith without more than normal supervision. Related experience includes: installing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of locking devices and their component parts; cutting keys, changing combination locks and locking devices by picking, manipulating or drilling; installing, repairing, or replacing building hardware including door closers, locks, hinges, etc.; planning and laying out work; and preparing diagrams to identify dimensions or parts requirements. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Work requires lifting up to 50 pounds and be physically able to walk, bend, stoop, stand and work in close spaces for longs periods of time while performing locksmithing duties. May require working in awkward conditions for extended periods of time. Works in a fully secured office containing the required tools, equipment, and materials, and performs 50% of preliminary work therein. The remainder of the time spent working in the field, both indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, abrasions, scrapes, bruises, and burns. Operates dangerous equipment such as a key cutting machine, electric grinder, and soldering irons that require shields and proper safety equipment for protection.
