Summary The incumbent is a professional driver who operates and performs operator maintenance on various @types of motor vehicles that are used to transport passengers and materials on or between campuses or other destinations between the Little Rock and North Little Rock Campus. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities will include: Transport patients for medical appointments using van, wheelchair van, sedans and other appropriate vehicles. Driving assignments are conducted in a safe and courteous manner. Records maintenance service records and reports of accidents if necessary. Abide by all City, State, and Federal regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles. Safely loads, secures, and unloads passengers who may or may not have a disability, their belongings, and any passengers' durable medical equipment, if necessary. Responsible for monitoring the vehicle maintenance needs of their assigned vehicle. Maintains the interior and exterior of vehicle making daily safety inspections of each vehicle used, and notifying the supervisor of any defects in its operation and condition. Possess a valid Arkansas Driver License and Class A CDL with Passenger Endorsement. Operates platform, van, stake and dump trucks, passenger shuttle (bus up to 44 passengers), and cargo vans which have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 10,000 pounds and up to 28,000 pounds. License Required: Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Arkansas Class A Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must possess good eye-hand coordination, have above average physical strength, stamina and reflexes and be able to operate hand and foot controls in order to maneuver busses and large trucks in a safe manner. Must be able to remain alert and calm, even after prolonged periods of time in often difficult and heavy traffic conditions. May be required to perform duties (such as assisting patients into and out of the vehicle) which involve frequent arm and leg movements, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and stretching. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 20 lbs. and occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 lbs. while loading and unloading cargo. The incumbent must be physically able to load and unload 36 laundry carts, some weighing up to 400 lbs. onto trailer. Normal tours of duty are eight hours; however, required duty hours are contingent on patient care needs and required continuity of medical center operations 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Expected to perform extended tours of duty during inclement weather to transport employees, patients, and cargo and when required to keep the streets, parking areas and walkways free of debris, ice and snow.
