Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent attention to customer service, especially with respect to students and faculty.

Excellent ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, students, parents, the public, and administrators from other academic units and departments.

Excellent eye for detail.

Technological skills are necessary to perform data entry, manage departmental calendars, and create departmental reports.

Ability to work collaboratively and independently, depending on the task, including the ability to anticipate needs and complete important tasks without needing to be asked.

Experience working in a professional office setting with a record of dependability, reliability, and excellent attendance history.

Demonstrated ability to handle multiple, complex tasks simultaneously, accurately, and on time.

Demonstrated experience and aptitude in the use of computer office software such as Microsoft Word, Access and Excel.

Basic- to intermediate-level experience and aptitude in the use of Adobe Creative Suite software used for graphic design, video editing, web development, and photography

Ability to work in a diverse work environment.

Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and use sound judgment using creative thinking skills.

Demonstrated ability to use discretion and good judgment in handling and maintaining confidential information in a professional manner.

Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position

The administrative support associate provides direct administrative support to the department chair (and associate chair), and handles processes related to the academic programs in the Department of Psychology. In addition, this position serves as department staff contact for students, parents, faculty and others regarding the department and its degree programs. This position will manage the front desk, provide customer service as the first point of contact, respond to emails and phone calls, provide administrative support to the department, maintain sensitive information, and apply current policies, regulations, and procedures. This position is also responsible for maintaining budget accounts, ordering equipment and supplies, and processing travel authorizations and travel claims, and other duties as assigned, including supervising work-study students.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The mission of the Department of Psychology is to prepare students for careers and study in the field of psychology by offering instruction, practicum and research experiences that will further the field of psychology and address problems of the human condition. The department offers a bachelor's degree and enrolls over 500 undergraduate students, and we have over 100 students online. The department also has a master's program with 2 tracks (1) General program (2) Clinical program which prepares students to practice at the master's level in NC. We have over 110 master's students who after passing the state licensure, will either practice at the master's level or enter a Ph D program for further training.
