Overview

The Subject Matter Expert (SME) -- Network Security Engineer provides senior-level expertise in designing, advising, and integrating secure enterprise and hybrid network environments in support of the Treasury/IRS ENISE program. This role ensures that network architectures, controls, and security strategies meet federal cybersecurity requirements and mission objectives. This position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

Provide senior-level engineering and architecture support for secure network environments within enterprise and hybrid infrastructures.

Develop, enhance, and validate secure network architecture designs aligned with federal security standards and program requirements.

Recommend and implement network security controls, including boundary protection, segmentation, monitoring, and cybersecurity hardening techniques.

Participate in technical design reviews, engineering working groups, and security architecture discussions.

Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system design artifacts, diagrams, standards, and integration plans.

Assist stakeholders in planning and executing secure integration of new technologies or capabilities.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between network architecture and overall cybersecurity strategies.

Identify risks, vulnerabilities, and areas for security improvement across network environments.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizenship with an active Public Trust (MBI) clearance.

Bachelor of Science in Computer Networking, Information Technology, or related field.

10+ years of professional experience in network engineering, network architecture, or network security.

Active CISSP certification.

Extensive experience with enterprise network security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, secure routing/switching, and cloud-based network security solutions.

Strong understanding of network security best practices, federal cybersecurity standards, and secure system design principles.
