Lead the architecture and evolution of mission-critical software systems that power global aviation communications. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will serve as a technical authority and thought leader, shaping system architecture, guiding engineering teams, and owning complex, full life-cycle software solutions that ensure the safety and connectivity of the world's airways. What YOU will do:
You will architect, design, and lead the development of mission-critical software systems supporting global aviation communication networks.
You will serve as a technical authority for air-ground and ground-ground communications, command and control systems, logging, test frameworks, and OS/hardware customization.
You will define and guide software architecture decisions, ensuring scalability, availability, security, and long-term maintainability.
You will lead technical planning, estimation, and execution across multiple projects, influencing scope, resources, and schedules.
You will mentor and technically guide software engineers, setting engineering standards and best practices across teams.
You will collaborate across disciplines (systems engineering, performance, network engineering, cybersecurity, and system acceptance) to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions.
You will support deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting in lab and field environments, including root cause analysis for complex system issues.
You will drive continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and software quality across the organization.

Qualifications You Must Have:
Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience, OR
Advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience
Demonstrated experience leading complex software development efforts across the full product lifecycle
Experience working in team-based environments using disciplined development processes
Proven ability to lead software estimation, planning, and technical execution for teams of 3+ engineers
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications We Prefer:
Proficiency in C and Python
Strong knowledge of object-oriented design principles and Linux-based systems
Experience with network protocols, data communications, and high-availability architectures
Experience designing and implementing secure, hardened solutions for mission-critical systems
Previous experience serving as a technical lead, architect, or principal-level contributor

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
