Responsible for the operation of multi-axle tractors and trailers including overweight/oversize (OW/OS) loads (up to 160,000 lbs. in combination), along with two-axle trucks for the delivery of equipment, materials, and supplies.

Heavy Haul Truck Driver
Hiring Salary Range: $72,000-$88,000
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level
Responsibilities:
· Operate multi-axle tractor, trailers, and two-axle trucks along with a wide range of related equipment for purposes of safely and properly loading and unloading equipment for transport to and from job sites and/or warehouse locations.
· Responsible for full adherence and compliance of all FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) rules and regulations, including OW/OS permits, IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement), and IRP (International Registration Program).
· Responsible for transporting trailers and delivering mobile equipment including substations, generators, transformers, and switch trailers. This includes the safe and proper loading and unloading of backhoes, front-end loaders, cranes, man-lifts, and other specialized and heavy equipment.
· Responsible for load securement when loading and unloading materials and/or equipment including proper rigging of slings; tie down of materials and equipment; and the proper securing of all loads in accordance with all FMCSA and DOT rules and regulations.
· Haul materials and equipment for storm emergencies or equipment failures as needed.
· Assist Fleet functional area in specifications for large truck, trailers and equipment including compliance with all federal and state rules, regulations and requirements.
· Assist in driving large, specialized equipment (i.e.: Bucket Trucks, Diggers, and similar equipment) to and from 3rd party vendor locations for maintenance, repair, and boom certifications.
· Responsible for documenting and maintaining current and accurate routing information for the quickest and safest transportation of Tri-State materials and equipment. Many times specialized mobile utility equipment will be transported under emergency conditions; route selection will require attention to road and bridge widths, bridge load bearing limits, and overhead clearances; along with substation site access road and yard access and egress limitations.
· Recommend necessary changes pertaining to substation location access and/or egress obstacles as required.
· Responsible for all periodic and annual preventive maintenance and inspections on all Vehicle Fleet assigned tractors including all record keeping as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
· Complete relevant permits, including applying for appropriate restrictions such as axle weight limits, lengths, heights, and pilot cars when applicable.
· Ensure the safe and proper transport of any hazardous materials including knowledge of placards.
· Complete logbooks as required, pre/post trip inspections, shipping papers, special permits and other related maintenance records as required.
· Because Tri-State is an electric utility with continuous service obligations to its customers, regular, reliable, and predictable performance of the essential functions and responsibilities is an essential function of the job.
· Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
· Specialized knowledge in DOT, Port of Entry, and commercial vehicle rules and regulations including IRP, IFTA, and overweight/oversize permitting for any state where driving occurs. Ability to comfortably haul up to 160,000 lbs. (in combination) with proper route planning and permitting.
· Working knowledge of computer systems and basic programs including vehicle fleet data base, word documents, and spreadsheets.
· Must be able to meet driver's qualifications as detailed in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
· Knowledge and ability to identify any deficiency found during a periodic inspection as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, DOT, and/or State Patrol.
· Willingness and ability to transport hazardous materials as required.
· The ability to multi-task and work independently under little or no supervision; and to schedule, coordinate, and organize work with all levels of transmission maintenance managers, supervisors and field crew personnel.
· The ability to communicate with a wide range of people establishes and maintains effective working relationships.
Experience:
· Must have a minimum of seven years (7) of heavy-haul experience (including multi-axle truck tractors with a variety of trailers including overweight/oversize loads up to 160,000 lbs. in combination) with extensive knowledge to complete annual DOT inspections on large trucks, pickups and trailers.
Other:
· Must have a satisfactory work record.
· Must have and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Drivers' License with Doubles/Triples Endorsement and no air brake restrictions, along with a current DOT physical. (Must have or obtain the following endorsements within six months: Hazmat and Tanker).
· Must have or obtain LCV driver training or have grandfathering certificate
· Must have a safe driving record as exemplified by no moving violations in the previous year and continuous possession of a Class A CDL for the last seven years
