The Weapons Production directorate (ALDWP) is seeking a highly motivated First Line Manager to support important national security missions at LANL, working in the Plutonium Supply and Disposition Division, Aqueous Recovery and Purification Operations Group (PSD-5). PSD Division leads and executes various key missions to support our nation's plutonium metal production and nuclear material recovery and recycle efforts as we produce the next generation of nuclear engineers and scientists. We proudly support Material Recovery & Recycle (MR&R) as well as the Los Alamos Plutonium Pit Production Project (LAP4) modernization efforts to enable the future of plutonium missions and Americium production to support well logging for the United States.
This role works in a team environment within LANL's nuclear facility to manufacture product, support material movement and support glove box operations. The majority of daily work is "hands-on" glove box work in support of plutonium processing. Processes in our Plutonium Facility (PF-4) are performed using detailed operating procedures and work requires extensive knowledge and expertise following Conduct of Operations, nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological safety and environmental compliance requirements.
Reporting to your Group Leader, you will provide management, leadership, and support the growth of one of five teams of 10 to 15 employees each, consisting of engineers, scientists, and technicians. As a First Line Manager, you will have responsibility, authority and accountability to execute work that supports programmatic milestones and deliverables while setting the standards for excellence and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Planning, organizing, and defining strategic objectives.
Establishing scope, schedule, and budget through work package development, resource and performance management and ensuring worker qualification and authorization.
Delivering quality products and/or services; enforcing adherence to quality standards; achieving balance between the need to meet both productivity goals and quality standards.
Ensuring administrative and operating procedures are current, understood, and adhered to before releasing work.
Working with facility operations staff to execute work safely, securely, with quality, and in compliance with nuclear facility requirements.
Ensuring direct daily oversight of work, workers and the work environment.
Serving as the safety responsible line manager over people, equipment, and processes.
Ongoing communications with line management reporting on work status, deliverables and commitments.
Directing and overseeing work performed by employees including "on the floor" supervision.
Mentoring and motivating peers.
Providing financial stewardship over budget, procurement, time and labor, travel, and property.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Management: Experience in managing people and/or projects, including planning, organizing, and resource management, as well as demonstrated experience creating work scope, schedules, budgets, coordinating work activities, and tracking progress.
Financial Stewardship: Demonstrated experience with financial stewardship. Demonstrated experience in identification of resource requirements and development of schedules.
Leadership: Demonstrated experience in the ability to effectively supervise, negotiate, conduct conflict resolution, mentor, and conduct personnel development.
Communication: Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications; effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers. Demonstrated communication of technical issues and solutions to employees, peers and upper management.
Safety/Compliance: Demonstrated experience performing work in a manufacturing environment and executing work in compliance with safety and facility requirements while maintaining a rigorous formality of operations.
Education/Experience: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2A: Requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science or technology, and 4 years of nuclear experience. Job-related education or experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may be used to substitute up to 50 percent of the experience requirement per section I 4.e of the Contractor Requirements Document (CRD).
Desired Qualifications:
Nuclear Experience: Experience with nuclear high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution of work.
Diverse Team Experience: Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team of technicians, engineers, scientists, and professional staff.
Clearance: Active DOE Q Clearance and HRP Certification highly desirable
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is a 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. *Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law.
