Through targeted marketing, business support services, and attraction and retention programs, we position Vienna as a premier destination to visit, shop, dine, and do business. Reporting to the Economic Development Director, the Marketing & Programs Specialist plays a hands-on role in executing the Department’s small business programming and marketing and brand strategy. This position offers room to grow on a small but highly collaborative team dedicated to supporting Vienna’s business community, especially its small businesses. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a go-getter mindset who is eager to build skills in economic development, with a particular interest in small business support and marketing. Manage marketing and communication efforts for the Economic Development Department to help position the Town as a unique place to do business and as a destination for shoppers and diners to support the local business community. Serve as a Clerk for the Town Business Liaison Committee and support the implementation of the Committee’s key initiatives. Promote the Town of Vienna through local media, TV, radio, print media, social media, and all other media platforms including paid advertisements. Maintain the Department’s digital presence, including website, blog, biweekly e-newsletter, and a purposeful social media strategy where each platform has its own purpose - all at a high-quality level. Prepare a monthly content calendar. Take a leading role in programs that support business sales through regional marketing including Vienna Restaurant Week to promote food-based businesses, holiday shopping advertisements and promotions, and local event-venues and catering strategies. Lead the Ribbon Cutting planning process for new Town businesses. Assist with business engagement and communication prior to major Town events that impact brick and mortar businesses, as well as participating in events that drive foot traffic to businesses such as the Holiday Stroll. Assist Director with business recruitment, retention or expansion proposals, and job retention programs and initiatives through the development of marketing materials and economic development programs. Manage and measure all marketing engagement including, but not limited to social media posts, radio, print ads. Define and measure key performance indicators for marketing initiatives and programs associated with entrepreneurship and small business initiatives. Assist with strategy formulation, aligning programs with the economic development strategy and connecting them to the Town’s larger goals. Maintain business contact list and database to support engagement efforts. Oversee seasonal intern(s). Develop strong relationships with community partners, new and existing businesses, local media, and local influencers. Maintain positive relations with internal and external customers. Minimum Training and Experience Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, business, urban planning, public policy administration, or a closely related field. Minimum of four years’ experience working in marketing and/or communication. Experience working with stakeholders such as Boards/Commissions, Chambers of Commerce, elected officials, and related local government departments. High-level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, WordPress, Canva, Emma, or MailChimp) and a strong aptitude for mastering new applications.
