Full-time Police Officer

Princeton Police is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the
position of a full-time Police Officer. The Princeton Police Department
is a progressive, non-civil service law enforcement agency that works
closely with our public safety colleagues and all stakeholders in our
community. The Town of Princeton is an amazing small community of
approximately 3,500 residents in 36 square miles. We are home to the
3,000-acre Wachusett Mountain Reservation and many amazing sights that
are enjoyed year-round by our residents and guests. Princeton is a safe,
engaging community in Worcester County that supports public safety. The
Princeton Police team is small, with budgeted staff of 14 sworn police
officers and one administrative assistant. Candidates must be able to
communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, possess
good problemsolving skills, and be able to enforce the law impartially,
making sound judgments under stressful situations. Candidates must
either have graduated from a full-time Massachusetts certified police
academy or be eligible for a waiver from the Massachusetts Police
Training Committee (MPTC) for having attended a certified police academy
and meeting the qualifications as set forth in 555 Code of Massachusetts
Regulations 3.03(a). Candidates with a High School Diploma or GED are
eligible to apply; however, candidates with a college degree from an
accredited college or university are preferred. Candidates who have a
full-time police academy and or are certified Emergency Medical
Technicians (EMT) are desirable. Candidates with diverse personal,
professional, and educational backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Candidates must be a citizen of the United States and at least 21 at the
time of appointment. Candidates must possess the ability to obtain a
valid Massachusetts driver?s license and License to Carry Firearms.
Retirement is mandatory at 65 years of age. Duties Include (but are not
limited to): Patrolling to observe and detect unusual activities; direct
and expedite the safe flow of traffic and assist the general public in
response to inquiries or requests for information; investigate crimes,
burglar alarms, accidents and other emergencies; make arrests and/or
take enforcement action for violations of law; gather evidence for
criminal investigations; identify witnesses, victims, or suspects;
prepare reports for court cases and appear in court as the situation
dictates; serve warrants, summonses, subpoenas, and other official
papers; maintain police weapons and department equipment as needed;
operate police vehicles and monitor police activity by radio; coordinate
efforts with other members of the department to ensure continuity of
police objectives; maintain an understanding of federal, state, and
local statutes/ordinances to ensure appropriate enforcement and
investigatory activities; engage with the community to assist with a
wide variety of quality of life issues from crime, fear of crime,
disorder or other areas to assist the general public. Police Officers
are asked to work weekends and holidays as assigned. Princeton Police
Officers work very closely with our surrounding communities and the
Massachusetts State Police. Often, a Princeton Police Officer is
requested for mutual aid to a surrounding community for police services.
Salary is set by union contract, yeary salery for full-time police
officers is around \$53K - \$69K a year. For officers hired with
previous experience, the town has the option to place the officer on a
higher step. Officers are also eligible for financial incentives such as
shift differential, EMT, cleaning, uniform alowence and education.
