BLOOM TOWNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION FOR: ROAD DEPARTMENT SUPERVISOR This is a supervisory position that requires at least five years of experience in a Road Worker or similar position. The person selected for this position will have a vast knowledge in the daily operations of the department. This position requires excellent public relations skills and the ability to lead the other department employees in performing job functions needed by the department. Reports to: Board of Trustees, Supervises 3 fulltime and one part time road workers. Paid Hourly. Uses Comp Time and Overtime.

DUTIES INCLUDE: ? Operates light to heavy equipment, such as front-end loader, backhoe, riding mower, dump truck, chipper, and other equipment in the repair and maintenance work for Township roads. Performs a variety of road maintenance activities such as loading/unloading dirt, spreading gravel, stone, and mix, raking and/or rolling and establishing level and/or grade, cutting berm, digging footers, cutting brush, backfilling, removing and disposing of debris from township roadways such as tree limbs and animal remains, painting, and related activities; ? Transports tools, supplies, and materials to and from various job sites; ? Operates welding equipment and cutting torches to weld and/or cut work related items; ? Maintains and mows cemetery grounds, roadways, and other property; opens and closes cemetery plots as necessary ? Performs activities in the cleaning and reshaping of ditches; ? Constructs, installs, repairs, and maintains all township traffic control signs, road names, and posts. Performs activities in the removal, repair, maintenance, and installation of culverts and tiles; ? Performs snow and ice removal activities. ? Performs tree removal in township right-of-ways or blocking township roadways ? Performs preventative maintenance to equipment to include lubricating, adding fluids, and performing routine adjustments; ? Works cooperatively with Road Department Administrative Manager and Fiscal Officer in developing departmental budget, purchase requests, invoice submittals, and any business related issues involving the road department ? Receives and/or resolves complaints from the public; ? Attends training as necessary.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: ? Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply the practices, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roadways; ? Thorough knowledge and ability to apply safety and operational policies and procedures of the department as they apply to the work assignments; ? Ability to read, write, and to comprehend and act up oral and written instructions; ? Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods, often under adverse weather conditions; ? Ability to work well alone or with others within and outside the Township, and to function as a leader of a work crew; ? Knowledge of township boundaries, roadways, cemeteries, and township property. ? Occasionally, we receive reports of farm animals loose in the township causing a hazard to motorist
