Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Worcester County Massachusetts. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance within a regulated nonprofit financial institution. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, a commitment to precision, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with various departments.

Responsibilities:

Prepare daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in alignment with GAAP and regulatory requirements.

Assist in filing quarterly Call Reports and ensure compliance with credit union standards.

Perform general ledger postings and reconciliations to maintain accurate financial records.

Manage liquidity monitoring and borrowing capacities with financial institutions, including the Federal Reserve Bank.

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions using Oracle systems.

Collaborate with external advisory firms to support month-end closings, fixed assets, investments, and regulatory filings.

Contribute to the development of the annual budget and assist in forecasting initiatives.

Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local compliance requirements within the banking sector.

Maintain and enhance internal control systems to safeguard organizational assets.

Support system improvements by identifying opportunities for workflow automation and efficiency enhancement

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience in the banking industry may be considered.

Minimum of 2-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with hands-on operational accounting expertise.

Solid understanding of financial reporting principles, including GAAP, and a willingness to learn industry-specific regulations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Oracle or similar large-scale accounting systems.

Ability to work independently as the sole onsite accounting staff member while maintaining high levels of integrity and attention to detail.

Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to supporting nonprofit organizational goals.

Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliation processes.

Knowledge of federal and credit union compliance regulations is highly desirable.
