Job Description
This position will report to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Public Information, and is responsible for creating and executing strategic communications planning and messaging for the Michigan Civil Rights Commission (MCRC) and the Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR). The incumbent in this position will be responsible for enhancing and projecting an image of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission and department as national civil rights leaders through consistent, creative and effective communications, focused on identifiable goals, constant improvement, key messages and target audiences. The incumbent will also serve as Chief Writer for MDCR, including responsibility for strategic messaging, talking points, speeches, brochures, white papers, reports, and newsletters for the agency. The role will also participate in MDCR leadership teams and manage the Public Information Officer, Digital Media Specialist, and Graphic Designer.

This position generally requires possession of a bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, and four years of professional experience. Vacation and Sick Leave:Eligible full-time employees receive between15 and 35 personal daysand 13 sick daysper year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year's Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
