Position Summary...
At Walmart, we help people save money so they can live better. This mission serves as the foundation for every decision we make and drives us to create the future of retail. In this role, within Technology Operations, you will help stand up a new capability using a cross-functional model.
Uniquely, this position bridges the gap between design and reality by requiring to split time between driving strategic process improvements and actively executing complex customer orders. You won't just be building tools from a desk; you will be on the floor using them. Part builder and part operator, you will use this first-hand experience to identify friction points, validate data, and navigate ambiguity to optimize our fulfillment network. Along the way, you'll be guided by our deep-rooted culture with the support and tools you need to do your best work.
What you'll do...
As a Manager in this new capability, you are the engine that drives the transformation agenda. You will work in "the gray," navigating ambiguity to turn complex operational problems into clear, actionable roadmaps. You will balance the tactical work of complex order execution with the strategic work of defining the future of how those orders are processed.
You'll make an impact by:
Validating Strategy through Execution: Spending a portion of your time directly fulfilling customer orders to test new internal tools in real-time, gaining immediate feedback on what works and what doesn't.
Building Use Cases & Requirements: Translating your hands-on observations and high-level business goals into detailed functional requirements; acting as the translator between operations and technical product teams.
Driving Data-Led Decision Making: Using a sharp, analytical mindset to dig into data, identify efficiency opportunities, and craft business cases; using data storytelling to influence peers and stakeholders.
Balancing Tactical & Strategic Work: Managing the tension between immediate operational needs and long-term process improvements (building the system of the future).
Navigating Ambiguity: Thriving in an environment where the path isn't always defined; taking ownership of undefined problems and providing structure to move them toward a solution.
What you need to succeed (Must-Haves):
Comfort in Ambiguity: You are not intimidated by "the gray." You can move forward without having every answer and are comfortable building processes from scratch.
Operational Willingness: You are ready to roll up your sleeves and do the physical work of fulfillment to understand the "ground truth" of the operation.
Analytical & Data-Driven: You have a strong ability to use data not just for reporting, but for building business cases and storytelling. You can look at a dataset and find the "so what."
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication. You can articulate complex requirements clearly to technical teams and explain process changes to business partners.
Balanced Mindset: You are detail-oriented enough to catch the small things but capable of zooming out for long-term strategic thinking.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):
Industry Context: Experience in Merchandising, Retail, or Supply Chain is a plus (though not mandatory; we can train on the specifics).
