Mechanical Design Engineer - Launch Systems

Experience Level: Intermediate

Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and take ownership of designing and activating production tools, launch pads, and recovery systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge aerospace projects and collaborate closely with launch operations teams to deliver high-quality, functional, and aesthetically refined hardware.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and activate production tools, launch pads, and recovery systems.

Analyze and develop mechanical systems for launch and recovery operations.

Demonstrate end-to-end project ownership, including coordination of build, testing, and activation.

Collaborate with launch operations teams to ensure products meet form, function, and aesthetic standards.

Apply technical knowledge in structural sizing, mechanisms, and design while balancing cost and schedule considerations.

Present cost and schedule trade-off proposals to leadership.

Required Skills

Mechanical engineering fundamentals

FEA and structural analysis

Siemens NX

GD&T application

Familiarity with simulation tools (ANSYS, FEMAP, Abaqus)

Qualifications

Education: Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Experience: 1+ years in mechanical design, analysis, or building mechanical structures in a professional setting

Project management experience in aerospace, industrial, or power generation industries

Strong understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications

Hands-on approach and willingness to assist in project completion

Excellent collaboration skills with technicians, engineers, and managers

Proactive, self-starter attitude with ability to lead projects from start to finish

Additional Attributes

Passion for aerospace and innovative mechanical systems

Ability to make development decisions based on cost and schedule constraints

Skilled in presenting technical proposals to leadership

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Cocoa, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
