Responsibilities At the full performance level, serves as an information technology (IT) specialist providing technical and advisory assistance to support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Western District of New York. Performs a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day operations and administration of IT systems within the Office of the United States Attorney. These duties include a wide range of information technology support to meet the USAO information needs using network hardware and software capabilities. Specifically, assignments encompass the following: Provides IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; Provides user training and assistance on a variety of routine applications and specialized applications used by the office; Assists in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems using knowledge of network standards and protocols, and knowledge of the capabilities and applications of network equipment including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware; Uses knowledge of information systems security principles and methods to participate in testing and implementation of the district's information security program; Monitors compliance and maintains assigned information systems security procedures in accordance with internal, agency, and Federal information security regulations and policies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To be qualified at the GS-09 and/or GS-11, you must possess: Basic Requirement: Information Technology (IT)-related experience, obtained through paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, demonstrating each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. GS-9: You must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, OR Education. To be eligible at the GS-09 level, have at least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in Federal service. Specialized experience should involve performing the following @types of duties: identifying and resolving problems, troubleshooting cause and providing recommendations for resolution, providing user training on hardware, software, and internet applications; and providing help desk support to users. Education: possess a Master's degree or equivalent degree in a related field (e.g., computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management ); OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in a related field OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks in one or more fields as identified above. GS-11: You must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience OR Education. To be eligible at the GS-11 level, have at least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; assisting in installing, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting commonly used hardware and software systems; assisting in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems; and testing and implementing an information security program. Education: possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks in one or more fields as identified above.
