Summary This position is located in the Transportation Unit of the Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Responsibilities Transporting patients to and from local airports, bus stations, and hospital residences; Driving vehicles, passenger cars, vans, buses, and trucks; Checking gas and other fluids, checking battery life, and changing tires; Completing trip tickets and logs; Maintaining the cleanliness of the office and vehicles; Supervising passengers entering and exiting vehicles; Loading and securing material on vehicles; Performing related duties as assigned. Qualifications Physical Effort: Drivers must be alert and aware of surroundings, highway conditions, and weather at all times. There is physical and mental strain on the mind and body which cause tension and slow reflexes. The driver must take driving breaks to regain mental acuity. Working Conditions: Work requires the driver to operate in all kinds of weather conditions. There are many times during the winter when driving must occur in deep snow and on icy streets and highways. The operator is also subject to dust, fumes, and traffic hazards. Driving occurs during both daylight and night hours. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.
