Job Description Summary

The Accountant position is responsible for performing a full range of accounting skills while applying policies, governmental accounting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles and practices, as well as, Grants Accounting and Compliance Support to the university.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

FUNCTIONS:

General Accounting

Grants Accounting and Compliance Support

Technical Support Assistance for Electronic Banking Systems

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: General Accounting

General accounting support for assigned accounts which may include, auxiliary, SSUF, student services (agencies)

Generates regular financial reports and directly present to stakeholders and with Controller or CFO as needed

Performs reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and resolves discrepancies with the appropriate department(s). Prepares journal entries to correct identified errors.

Ensures full utilization of ERP system and continuous monitoring of processes to achieve greater efficiencies

Prepares relevant financial reports that may include: financial statements, state reports, agency reports, bond rating agency reports

Maintain documentation for compliance

Manage University capital assets

Maintain oversight of student organizations accounting and development of business practices

Perform payroll related approvals in the banking system

Other duties as assigned

Grants Accounting and Compliance Support

Accountant support for grants administration and reporting

Ensures policies that are applicable to assigned areas are accurate and up to date

Other duties as assigned

Technical Support Assistance for Electronic Banking Systems

Maintain features in banking system, examples include: Positive Pay, Reconciliation, Stop Pay

Coordinates with Bursar to administer CASHNET e-market set-ups and transactions; provides accounting and technical support for Blackboard Transactions, assist with the daily processing and reconciliation of online banking system transactions

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles, practices and procedures.

Reconcile, balance and audit records and accounts

Excellent Analytical and problem solving skills to ensure proper administration of accounting policies and regulations, to analyze and prepare reports, and to resolve discrepancies.

Computer skills, especially those related to office software.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Ability to work independently with complex systems in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.

One year of experience
