Scientist I, Upstream Process Development-Houston, TX

Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking an Upstream Process Development Scientist I to support one of our clients, a leading gene therapy company, located in southwest Houston. The selected candidate will play a key role in the development and production of recombinant AAV vectors for preclinical and clinical studies within a state-of-the-art facility.

Responsibilities:

Independently perform routine suspension cell culture (sampling, cell counting, passaging).

Support upstream process development across multiple scales (shake flasks, rocker, 2L-50L bioreactors).

Prepare buffers/reagents, perform bioreactor setup and sampling, and monitor process performance.

Execute experiments supporting viral vector production, technology transfer, and GMP manufacturing activities.

Maintain accurate documentation, follow GDP/GMP principles, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Manage lab supplies, ensure equipment readiness, and participate in continuous process improvements.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Biological Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering (minimum).

At least 2 + years of hands-on experience in AAV gene therapy, viral vector production, or bioprocess development.

Proficiency in aseptic technique, cell culture, and bioreactor operations.

Familiarity with GMP or regulated lab environments preferred.

Strong troubleshooting, organization, and communication skills.

Ability to lift 25-50 lbs and work in a collaborative PD/GMP environment.
