PATROL DEPUTY
SUMMARY:
Initially under immediate and then under general supervision, performs a wide variety of peace officer duties to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, investigate, suppress and prevent crimes, prepare cases and testimony for court, and provide information and assistance to the public; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Welcome to the Routt County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office is responsible for law enforcement, investigations, and detentions within Routt County, Colorado. We work hand-in-hand with community members to provide protection and service to our community as a whole. We strive to provide the highest qualified law enforcement officers and maintain their skills through ongoing training in the latest law enforcement practices. Routt County is a large area, covering 2,231 square miles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma, minimum 60 semester hours or higher-level education, or a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Employment is contingent upon passing the following:

Complete 8-to-16-week F.T.O Program with 3 or more written tests and numerous practical test
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs a wide variety of peace officer duties to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, investigate, suppress and prevent crimes, prepare cases and testimony for court, and provide information and assistance to the public; enforces municipal, county and state laws and applicable ordinances and adheres to the recognized Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.
Patrols assigned areas, observes situations, and deters crime by providing high visibility.
Responds to suspicious activities and answers emergency calls for service; determines whether incidents are criminal or civil in nature by evaluating pertinent information; determines the priority of actions to be taken at the scene and determines the proper preliminary investigative procedures to apply and the necessary assistance required; applies appropriate interview and interrogation techniques to obtain relevant information from witnesses, victims, suspects and other persons at the scene.
Conducts structure searches; protects the crime scene; locates, identifies, gathers, and preserves evidence and property.
Approaches and detains suspects; makes arrests; restrains and subdues suspects when necessary to affect physical arrests; searches people; pursues fleeing suspects and applies the appropriate use of force in compliance with governing statutes and office regulations.
Provides assistance and information to the public; explains procedures, laws and other applicable requirements; receives and processes complaints; advises victims, complainants, violators, and others on the resolution or mediation of disputes; effectively control crowds.
Cooperates with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to the investigation of crimes and the apprehension of offenders.
Serves and executes warrants, subpoenas and civil documents; responds to subpoenas to appear in court; testifies on behalf of either the prosecuting attorney or defense attorney, regardless of the time of day or days off.
Provides basic emergency medical assistance to incapacitated persons when necessary; responds to and investigates skier accidents, snowmobile accidents, and other recreational vehicles/activity accidents; participates in search and rescue operations; responds to wildland fires and assists with evacuations or investigations.
Assists Detention staff with court security, prisoner transports, booking, and inmate control.
Prepares accurate, legible, and pertinent reports, memos, citations, activity logs, and other documents; accurately summarizes statements from victims, witnesses, complainants, and others.
Operates patrol vehicle under routine and emergency conditions in a variety of weather conditions during the day and night; maintains patrol equipment;
Retrieves, identifies, and returns found property and/or evidence to owners.
Participates in meetings, briefings, and training.
May be selected for special teams or assignments that require additional training and/or certification.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
At a minimum, a Patrol Deputy will possess a valid Colorado Certified Peace Officer P.O.S.T. certification, CPR/First Aid certification and hold a Driver's License in order to operate a County vehicle.
