A Process Server performs personal legal (process) service and a variety of courier-related activities in direct support of the Investigations Unit within the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office (Adams/Broomfield Counties.)
Examples of Duties for Success
Travels throughout the Denver metro area and beyond to serve personal legal process such as subpoenas, summons, asset forfeitures, and legal notices to victims, witnesses, and defendants on cases filed by the District Attorney.
Establishes as necessary, the location of persons to be served through standardized procedures (e.g., motor vehicle records, state employment records and utility records).
Locating and serving witnesses and defendants with initiative and creativity are required.
Incumbent is responsible for the safe operation of a motor vehicle.
To be successful, our candidate should have the following knowledge, skill, and abilities:
Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the criminal prosecution process.
Ability to obtain a working knowledge of state and federal statutes relevant to the service of legal process.
Ability to assess the potential level of risk present in any given process service situation and to act accordingly.
Ability to prepare, write and complete accurate reports in a timely manner.
Ability to be flexible to meet the demands and needs of the position.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, attorneys, suspects, witnesses, other police agencies, personnel and the general public.
Skill in the use of office equipment, including the operation of a motor vehicle, personal computer, and cellular phone. Ability to gain general knowledge of the effective use of system software, MS WORD, Blackstone, NCIC and CCIC.
Ability to gain considerable knowledge of the Denver metropolitan area street address grid system and ability to read and interpret maps and street guides.
Qualifications for Success
One (1) year of public work, in a law enforcement agency, involving giving, receiving, and interpretation of factual data utilizing systems under the scope of law enforcement or any equivalent combination of education or experience
The personal service of legal process may expose the incumbent to the hazards associated with serving process to uncooperative persons in depressed neighborhoods, the operation of motor vehicle, and exposure to extreme weather.
Previous Law Enforcement experience is required, P.O.S.T. certification preferred.
A current Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) in Colorado is required.
Must be eighteen (18) years old and not a party to the action.
Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License.
Work is located in a standard office environment and involves the use of a motor vehicle.
Incumbent may also be required to lift, push or pull materials of up to 50 lbs.
