Summary This position is located in the Warehouse area of the Logistics Service at VA Central Western Massachusetts and the supported catchment area. The position will be performing warehouse work that involves receiving, storing, selecting, and shipping general or specialized bulk and bin materials and equipment. The primary purpose of this position is to provide warehousing, distribution and receiving of supplies goods and equipment. Responsibilities The duties of this occupation include but are not limited to the following: Checks received shipment items against electronic purchase orders and/or other related documentation. Verifies correctness of shipment prior to completing receiving process. Records/notes discrepancies such as shortages and damages. Directs special attention to time sensitive and emergency requests. Maintains warehouse in a neat clean and orderly manner. Maintains the flow of the warehouse by moving, delivering, shelving, storing and inventorying materials and equipment. Handles delivering and warehousing materials including hazardous, flammable and temperature sensitive products. Places items appropriately on shelving, pallets on bins to ensure adequate safeguard and access. Reads, writes, and maintains files of various government and commercial documents to include turn in requests, discrepancy reports shipping/receiving documents, etc. Maintains accurate inventory for all materials and equipment. Interprets a variety of standards operation procedures (SOPs), directives, and policies. Follows all guidance provided by various directives, handbooks, memorandum, property management regulations, supply and distribution policies, checklists, etc. Follows oral instruction from dispatcher and/or supervisor pertaining to transporting, destination, cargo, deadlines and any additional/special instruction when appropriate. Familiar with automated purchasing and inventory systems. Uses forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, and other loading and storage mechanisms. Understands how to load supply carts, vehicles or pallets to ensure safety and most efficient process. Ensures all items are packaged or palletized correctly to prevent damage. Adheres to all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) operating and safety standards. Utilizes proper safety techniques when handling a variety of material and equipment. Uses all @types of personal protective equipment (PPE). Takes all precautionary measures in an attempt to prevent serious accidents. Working Conditions: Required to work in storage buildings, pods, trailers, vehicles and warehouses that may be hot, cold , drafty and poorly lit. Employees work outdoors, on docks, making deliveries in all @types of weather conditions during all seasons. Hazardous materials may be encountered in daily work activities.
