About the Role:

The Activities Aide plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents (Members) within the Firefighter's Home by organizing and facilitating engaging recreational and therapeutic activities. This position focuses on promoting social interaction, mental stimulation, and physical well-being among Members, contributing to their overall health and happiness. The Activities Aide collaborates closely with nursing staff, therapists, and family members to tailor activities that meet individual needs and preferences. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, the aide helps foster a sense of community and belonging. Ultimately, this role is essential in supporting the holistic care approach, ensuring members remain active, engaged, and emotionally fulfilled.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience in a healthcare, recreational, or caregiving role is preferred but not mandatory.

Basic knowledge of activity planning and implementation for elderly or disabled populations.

Ability to communicate effectively with members, families, and healthcare professionals

The ability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical ability to assist members and manage activity materials and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in long-term care, assisted living, or similar healthcare environments.

Familiarity with cognitive and physical disabilities and appropriate activity adaptations.

Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate, patient-centered approach.

Responsibilities:

Plan, prepare, and implement a variety of recreational and therapeutic activities tailored to the interests and abilities of members.

Assist members in participating safely and effectively in scheduled activities, providing encouragement and support as needed.

Maintain accurate records of activities, member participation, and progress to inform care plans and communicate with the healthcare team.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff to develop individualized activity plans that align with member's health goals and preferences.

Ensure all activity areas and equipment are clean, safe, and well-maintained to provide a secure environment for members.

Skills:

The Activities Aide utilizes strong organizational skills to plan and execute diverse activities that meet the varied needs of members daily. Effective communication skills are essential for engaging members, collaborating with healthcare teams, and providing clear instructions during activities. Empathy and patience are critical in supporting members with different abilities and ensuring their comfort and participation. Physical stamina and coordination are necessary to assist members safely and manage activity materials. Additionally, problem-solving skills help the aide adapt activities to accommodate individual challenges and create an inclusive environment.
