Staff Accountant

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Accounting & Financial Reporting: Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations. Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports for management and department leaders. Maintain general ledger accounts and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions. Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable. Reconcile bank accounts, fund balances, and other financial records. Ensure all revenue and expenses are properly recorded to support accurate financial statements. Support annual financial audits by preparing required documentation and liaising with auditors. Billing & Reimbursement: Oversee hospital billing functions and coordinate with off-site billing company. Monitor payment and remittance processes in patient accounting system and clearinghouses. Ensure timely follow-up on rejected claims and resolution of billing issues. Analyze reimbursement patterns and identify opportunities to maximize revenue. Assist departments with compliance with billing regulations and payer requirements. Financial Systems & Analysis: Use Excel to analyze trends and track variances. Work with IT/vendors to troubleshoot and improve billing system processes. Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial or billing data. Maintain accurate documentation and organize billing and financial files. Other Responsibilities: Serve as a problem-solving resource for billing and finance-related inquiries. Assist with special projects and reporting requests as assigned. Provide back-up support for finance and billing staff when needed. Represent the Finance Department in internal committees or external meetings as assigned. ** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical/hospital billing, accounting, or a related financial role. Knowledge of Hospital Information Systems preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis). Experience with general ledger, journal entries, and month-end close processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
