Summary
The Telecom Network Technician (Associate - Senior) is the technical expert on multiple telecommunication protocols (microwave, fiber, two-way radio, various wireless networks, etc.) and is responsible for ensuring that the network is performing at optimum capacity. The Telecom Network Technician (Associate - Senior) may work independently or under the supervision of a higher-ranking Network Technician, usually a Senior, Lead or Specialist. A resource in this role has general to deep knowledge of telecom design standards, applicable regulations (e.g. FAA/FCC and NERC CIP), and processes and procedures related to this Telecom Network Technician Senior position. Technical certifications may be required depending on the specifics of this role.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
Develop, implement, monitor, troubleshoot, and recommend changes to various field network solutions
Keep abreast of technology changes, evaluate and recommend network components, and develop documentation and installation standards for these components
Participate in both project and maintenance work related to the implementation of new and troubleshooting of existing telecommunication systems
Work with vendors and service providers in order to assist in the diagnosis and resolution of network problems
Develop, digitize, and update system and procedure documentation for all network systems and infrastructure
Work in partnership with engineering, project management, and other technician groups across Oncor to implement communications solutions
Plan and implement changes to the transport network while ensuring adherence to all change management policies and procedures
Strive to resolve all problems efficiently and to identify the root cause of every problem
Coordinate all planned outages
Communicate with verbal and written status reports as required
Perform end-to-end analysis on the transport network using various monitoring and management tools
With or without supervision depending on level, provide support for at least one major system (fiber optics, circuits, Advanced Metering System (AMS), microwave, two-way radio, field area network (FAN), Distribution Automation (DA), MPLS network, etc.) and secondary support on multiple minor systems; mentors junior technicians on these systems and tools as appropriate
Adhere to safe work practices to support the goal of no reportable accidents within the Technology department
Be on call - the transport network is a 24x7 operation and all personnel will be on call in the event of a problem
Perform other duties as required
Skills
General knowledge of telecommunications network design and architecture, various telecom / network equipment technologies, standards and regulatory requirements, and general technology system and process knowledge
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Internet/Intranet applications
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and work in a fast-paced, changing environment
Education and Experience
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
Bachelor's or associate degree in electrical engineering technology, Technology, Engineering, or another related field is encouraged to apply
Associate Level: 1-2 years of experience in a Technology, Telecom or Utility related role is required
Technician Level : 2-4 years of experience in the Associate Technician role or in a Technology, Telecom, or Utility related role is encouraged to apply
Senior Level: 2-4 years' experience in the Technician role or 4-6 years in a Technology, Telecom, or Utility related role is encouraged to apply

Meets Technology Smart Grid Communication and Controls' capability goals as it pertains to telecommunication / network system reliability and performance
The Network Technician (Associate - Senior) will be accountable for timely resolution of equipment outages
The Network Technician (Associate - Senior) will be accountable for timely completion of project tasks as well as annual maintenance in their assigned area and technology
The Network Technician (Associate - Senior) will be accountable for ensuring adherence to change management and compliance processes in all field activities
Completes designated tasks for the Technician role around access requirements, network configuration, cabling, training and development, testing equipment and troubleshooting, regulatory requirements, power, safety, software and tools, Telecom concepts, leadership, and fiber and radio frequency equipment; complexity, level and mastery of tasks depends on the resource's level of skill and experience
